King Kong Movie Review

Overall, I think that the movie King Kong was a good movie. For the time period that it was shot in, it was an advanced movie. It had various special effects including sound, motion and dialogue. The director used a variety of props to help capture the images of the actual movie. The stop motion photography and rear projection camera angles and positions added to the special effects. Compared to today's' films, King Kong wasn't as neat and clean cut like some of the new releases today. In one scene you could see the background moving and the people walking, but you didn't see them move from one side of the screen to the other, they stayed in place. This would be an example of the rear projection when the film is projected on cellulose-acetate screen and the actors acted in front of it, thus creating the effect of "walking through the jungle". There was also continuous music playing in the background along with the dialogue except for in the scene with the airplanes flying over King Kong. The change in the sound created a dramatic effect that allowed the audience to be filled with suspense while watching that particular scene. Since the movie was an early-released film, you could easily tell that a lot of the props and other special effects were more unrealistic than today's' films. Such as the dinosaurs that were used in the film looked fake compared to the ones that were in the movie Land Before Time. The T-Rex dinosaur in the movie King Kong only has simplistic movements and moves like a robot. These simple movements creates the illusion that the use of technology wasn't well-known. They had little use to the knowledge of how to create such mirror images of the realistic creatures. Although they did a good job in creating look-a-like replicas of the nonexistent creatures. In the Land Before Time, the dinosaurs appear to be more realistic even though they look similar to the dinosaurs in the movie King Kong. The difference is that the use of technology is more wide-spread and is more common. making the movements of the dinosaurs in the Land Before Time movie more smooth. The color enhancement of the newer movies also make the films more realistic than the black and white films. With the black and white films it was harder to tell what time of day it was. Since all was grey, it was hard to distinguish between morning, afternoon, and night scenes. My favorite scene however, was the scene with all the natives dancing around the fire for their ceremony. The unique props and features really did a good job of bringing out that particular scene. With the use of more advanced technology the movie King Kong would be a great-selling movie.
